New sport&social session for the over 50’s launches in poynton

Trudy Deacon, Sport&Social Coach

63 year old fitness enthusiast, Trudy Deacon, launches Sport&Social; a multi-sport session at Poynton Leisure Centre to encourage people aged 50+ to try out new sports, get active, socialise and have fun!

Sport&Social Coach, Trudy, recently moved to Poynton after living in Norwich for 40 years. Trudy made enquiries as to whether her skills may be useful to Everybody Sport and Recreation as a Volunteer and soon after, began helping at sports sessions for both children and adults which then led to a part time role.

Trudy commented, “I was so happy as at 63, I didn’t expect to have this kind of opportunity again! I had some wonderful friends and a wonderful job as an Activities Coordinator for a Fitness In Later Life Programme in Norwich. Now I’m here in Poynton, I’ve been anxious to get involved with the community and meet like minded people.”

Sport&Social is a great opportunity to find the love for sport you once had or to try out a new activity.  No previous sporting experience is needed. The emphasis is enjoyment, fun and socialising with the opportunity to improve your fitness and health.

Stretching and ABC (agility, balance and coordination) sessions

The session will run every Thursday commencing 26th April, 10:00am-12:00am at Poynton Leisure Centre. Participants will be encouraged to take part in activities including; Badminton, Short Tennis, New-age Curling, Table-Tennis, Swimming, Stretching and more. The acitivities run for one hour and participants can then stay for a social including tea, coffee and a chat. The planned stretching and ABC (agility, balance and coordination) sessions are a great way to keep those niggling health problems away.

“From our first meeting with Trudy it was clear to see she is an incredibly enthusiastic & fun person, who has a passion for supporting others to become more social and active. We are very excited about this new session and want to encourage people to come and join in, have fun and socialise with friends.” Lee Malkin, Sports Development Manager, Everybody Sport and Recreation.

Exercise can boost your energy levels, help you maintain a healthy weight and even slow down symptoms associated with ageing! If you are 50 years of age or above and looking to become more active or add to the exercise you undertake currently, please contact Poynton Leisure Centre on 01625876442 or plc@everybody.org.uk to book your place at Sport&Social, Trudy is looking forward to meeting you there!
