ASA LEVEL 1 ASSISTANT Swimming TEACHER

The ASA Level 1 Assistant Swimming Teacher qualification is a practical qualification, which develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be a assistant swimming teacher and is the pre-requisite for the Level 2 qualification.

Duration: 30 Hours

Cost: £370

Candidate Criteria: All candidates must be at least 16 years of age at registration for the course. 100% attendance is required.

ASA LEVEL 2 SWIMMING TEACHER

The ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification is a practical qualification, which develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be a Swimming Teacher.

This qualification builds on the knowledge, skills and abilities developed in the ASA Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification. When achieved it ensures swimming teachers can effectively and independently plan, prepare, deliver, monitor and evaluate a series of swimming teaching lessons.

This qualification is for those learners who:

  • Would like or require the next step to become a lead teacher in the aquatic environment
  • Are seeking further career progression within their area of work

 

Pre Requisites

Candidates must be at least 17 years of age to register onto this course and either the ASA Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teacher), ASA Level 1 Award in Teaching Aquatics (QCF) or an equivalent qualification certified after 1994.

national rescue awards for SWIMMING TEACHERs and coaches (nrastc)

Summary

The NRASTC is a supervision and rescue qualification for teachers working on the poolside or in the water during programmed activities, such as a swimming lesson. This is not a Lifeguard qualification.

The qualification is endorsed by the ASA, the Institute of Swimming Teachers and Coaches and the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity and recognised in ‘Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools’ as being appropriate for those supervising programmed activities.

Pre Requisites

Candidates must be aged 16 years or older at the time of the assessment (usually the second day of the course) and be able to:

  • Swim 50 metres
  • Surface dive to the deepest part of the pool (where the course takes place) and climb out without help and without using steps or ladders

Syllabus

Training and assessment for the NRASTC is in three sections and all must be successfully passed to attain the award.

Section 1 – The teacher, swimming pool and class management

Section 2 – Intervention, rescue and emergency action

Section 3 – CPR and first aid

Assessment

The course will include an oral theory test and practical assessments conducted by an independent assessor. The assessment will take up to an hour in addition the course duration (below)

ASA fundamentals of school SWIMMING

Summary

This qualification will provide the learner with the skills to actively assist and/or support a more qualified teacher in the delivery of school swimming and understand the core principles of the National Curriculum with in the Primary School environment.  This is the minimum recommended qualification for assisting in the delivery of school swimming

Pre Requisites

Candidates are required to work or volunteer within the primary school swimming programme e.g. school teacher, classroom assistant, learning support staff, nursery nurse, parent, other helpers etc.  In addition students involved in initial teacher training may also attend.

Candidates are also required to hold a current CRB/DBS certificate.  N.B: It is the responsibility of the schools to ensure that this pre-requisite has been met.

Duration

The FUNdamentals of School Swimming course is 6 hours.
