EVERYBODY VOLUNTEER TIM BROADHURST REACHES 150 VOLUNTEER HOURS AT ACTIVE8 SESSIONS

Tim Broadhurst with Andy Farr, Trustee at the Everybody Staff Awards 2016

Tim Broadhurst started out as a participant at Activ8, which is a disability & inclusion session, organised by Everybody Sport and Recreation that takes place every Monday evening in Macclesfield, 6.00-7.30pm, at Fun4all.

Tim, from Bollington, has Downs Syndrome but has never let this stop him from enjoying sport and encouraging others. He has been attending the Activ8 sessions as a participant from the age of 10, and when he turned 21 decided he would like to continue at the session but as an Everybody Volunteer.

Now 25, he has achieved over 150 hours supporting other children & teenagers with disabilities at Activ8, helping them engage in sport, games and fun activities each week.

Tim says he is very proud to wear his Everybody Volunteer uniform and be part of the programme.

He commented, I really enjoy helping Andy and Ellie run Activ8 each week, it has been fun. I enjoy helping the children who enjoy playing football, and I have really enjoyed helping with the trampolines.  I am proud of being a volunteer for Everybody.”

Lee Malkin, Sports Development Manager at Everybody sport and Recreation commented,

“Tim is a very inspiring individual, who we are very lucky to have as a Volunteer at Activ8. His enthusiasm to attend every week and help others achieve the same enjoyment from sport & activity he has, is great to see.

We are proud to be able to provide opportunities for volunteers whatever their skills and abilities. We have a target to reach 40,000 volunteer hours by 2020 and it is because of people like Tim that we are already reaching the half way target!”

Tim recently won the ‘Volunteer of the Year’ award at the Everybody Sport and Recreation annual Staff Awards, which were held at Holmes Chapel Community Centre. Tim was recognised due to his longstanding commitment to the volunteer programme and for helping others achieve their potential at the Active8 sessions in Macclesfield.
