Everybody’s Walking Football Group at Nantwich’s Barony Sports Complex was recently asked to represent Crewe Alexandra FC in the first National walking football event.
A team of 7 came forward for the regional tournament, which took place in Blackpool on Wednesday 17th June. Crewe & Blackpool were successful in going through to the Finals held at St. Georges Park on Monday 6th July.
Crewe weren’t successful in winning their group matches however, it was Plymouth who became the National Walking Football Champions.
Lee Malkin, Community and Participation Manager at Everybody Sport and Recreation commented,
‘It is a fantastic achievement that the Barony walking football team have made to be selected for the national finals and shows the dedication of the players. We have seen a huge growth in interest from Everybody customers in Walking Football, a great sport to get the over 50’s back on the field and staying active.’
He continued,
‘There are plenty of opportunities for walking football groups to be launched across Cheshire East and we are encouraging those interested in the sport to get in touch and join in!’
Walking Football is a great way to keep active, it is aimed for over 50’s who want to continue playing football but at a slower pace and encourages footballers to get back into the sport after an injury.
The session takes place Every Wednesday 3.45-4.45pm £3 per person at The Barony Sports Complex, Nantwich. Please book in advance by telephoning 01270 685565 or email: [email protected]
