Summer 2017 saw the first Everybody Walking Football Tournament take place, which was made up of teams from across Everybody Facilities.
Teams that entered were: Knutsford LC/Macclesfield LC/Wilmslow LC/Barony Sports Complex/Congleton LC/Holmes Chapel LC with 3 players from Poynton LC joining with Macclesfield LC.
The tournament was held at Holmes Chapel Leisure Centre on the 3G, and the football was played in great spirit with each team getting play each other in a league format. There was some great football played, excellent skills and a high level of football, which was accompanied by lots of laughing and joking around.
All players were all invited back to the Holmes Chapel Community Centre for food, a presentation, and chance to speak with the other walking football groups. Holmes Chapel were the winners of the tournament, just beating Macclesfield, so well done to them, they received a trophy as pictured right.
Simon Green – Sport & Activity Facilitator said “it was great to see so many of the Everybody Walking Football sessions come together to play in a tournament on the 3G in Holmes Chapel, we were also please to see that almost all players came back and joined us for this chance to socialise with their team mates and others that are enjoying playing the beautiful game.”
Everybody Walking Football Programme started back in 20 at the Barony Sports Complex led by Craig McKeith. On working with Craig we could see the potential for this format of football and started to create new sessions at other Everybody Leisure Facilities. We had lots of support from staff and volunteers like Ray Sheppard, who was chair of the Cheshire Walking Football Group, and gave lots of advice and knowledge to help shape this programme.
We would like to thank all those involved in the walking football programme, from players to coaches & volunteers.
