Charity reaches over 4500 people in a mission to keep people active during this time.
Everybody Sport and Recreation, registered health and wellbeing charity based in Cheshire East, is on a mission to keep as many people active at home during this time and is delighted to announce they now have over 4500 members in their Everybody Member Zone Facebook Group.
Everybody have been providing a range of free health and fitness support across a range of channels such as workout cards and healthy recipes on their website, live exercise classes and weekly challenges in their Facebook group and exercise classes on their YouTube channel.
Emily Jenkins shares “Thank you to all the instructors who have made videos of their gym classes. I work in A&E so I’m sure you can imagine my shift patterns are all over the place! So being able to access the videos at any time is great as I’m generally at work during the classes. Your time and effort is really appreciated, thank you.”
Kerry Shea Executive Director at Everybody Sport and Recreation shares “Supporting people to be more physically active is a key aspect of what we do. Whilst our facilities are temporarily closed, we will continue to do everything that we can to keep the community healthy and active during this time, by targeting our efforts and our service offer.”
The level of physical activity is measured nationally as part of the Sport England Active Lives Survey. Within Cheshire East, participation in physical activity has been growing for the last few years since Sport England redefined these measures. In the latest survey, released in April 2019, Cheshire East is now the most active borough in the North West. 69.8% of people are classed as active – completing over 150 minutes per week. The number of inactive adults has also decreased to 21.1% (-2.0%). Over three in four adults (78.9%) are now meeting the Chief Medical Officer’s recommendations.
Kerry Shea continues “As you can see from the data it is more important now than ever that we keep supporting residents in continuing to be active during this time and to support inactive adults, at home. By giving all residents access to our free, online resources, it is a chance for them to try new classes and find something they enjoy doing, resulting in exercise becoming part of everybody’s day to day life.”
With the help of Everybody’s Facebook group members, sharing what classes they would like to have access to, Everybody Sport and Recreation are delighted to have launched a brand new health and fitness class timetable based on what the community want.
Classes include, Everybody Yoga, Everybody Pilates, Everybody Stretch and Tone, High Intensity Interval Training, Boxing and much more.
As well as these classes, Everybody Sport and Recreation have a range of health classes including, Everybody Lower Back – A class for those who have a non-specific low back pain. The exercises consist of gentle movement and mobility helping to reduce back pain and increase movement.
Everybody Mobility- A class aimed at older adults who are at risk of falling, particularly those who are over the age of 70 and Everybody Get Moving- A gentle exercise routine to improve/help with your flexibility, aerobic capacity, balance and strength.
Helen Jones shares: “Thank you Everybody Team for working so hard to put these sessions out – they have really helped to make this situation more bearable for me. I have loved the Stretch and Tone. Now looking forward to some Pilates and Yoga.”
