Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School (HCCS) held their annual Partner Primary Schools 5-a-side Tournament on Wednesday afternoon (11th February), with the event taking place on their brand new 3G pitch facility for the very first time.

Former England international footballer and HCCS pupil, Dean Ashton, was in attendance as the special guest to reward the triumphant teams with their trophies.

The tournament consisted of twelve teams from years five and six at Holmes Chapel, Hermitage, Brereton, Goostrey, Chelford, Peover Superior and Lower Peover primary schools. With the competition divided into two hard-fought groups and very little to split any of the teams, Holmes Chapel and Brereton were eventually crowned the two victorious sides.

IMG_0801Speaking to the children before presenting the prizes, Ashton said,

“I didn’t have a facility like this when I was at school here, before I went on to play Premier League football. I can tell you that you’re very lucky because this is a Premier League facility.”

The ex-Crewe Alexandra, Norwich and West Ham United player also went on to praise some of the young talent that had been on display throughout the afternoon.
The new 3G pitch is a £700,000 development funded by the Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School and features a fully-floodlit playing surface, as well as spectator areas, covered seating and a long jump pit. The facility will be used for PE lessons and school fixtures throughout the day, and open for bookings from the general public from 5pm.

There are already plans in place to ensure that it is utilised as an essential community use facility, with girls’ football, junior coaching and walking football for over 50s due to launch from March 2nd.

Everybody staff at Holmes Chapel Leisure Centre will be working with the school to manage bookings and you can enquire by emailing: [email protected] or phoning the centre on: 01477 689552.
