Clive Gets Back To Playing Football After Heart Attack

After having a heart attack Clive Humphries, 64, from Alsager decided it was time to find for a new sporting activity to join.

Already, an avid gym goer with his wife, Clive thought he was reasonably fit and healthy. Then out of the blue in 2016 he suffered a heart attack. After making a good recovery, Clive wanted to stay fit and healthy but he needed to find a way of exercising at a slower pace, that still kept him motivated and was something he would enjoy going to every week.

Clive saw an advert about Walking Football on the TV and started to enquire at his local leisure centre to find out if there was a session he could attend. At the time, Walking Football sessions were running in Nantwich, Crewe and Wilmslow but not at his local Everybody  leisure facility.

Clive commented, ‘I played football regularly until my 30’s and since have enjoyed watching my son play. After the heart attack and seeing the adverts about walking football I wanted to play again! There are only a few simple pleasures in life and to me playing football was one of them.’

He continued, ’I am so greatful to have the opportunity to play the game again, you can take it at your own pace, and it doesn’t matter about your ability there is a place for Everybody.’

Simon Green, Sport and Activity Facilitator at Everybody Sport and Recreation commented, ‘The Walking Football sessions we have in Cheshire East were working so well when Clive got in touch we jumped at the chance to launch a new session on a Thursday evening in the Alsager Leisure Centre sports hall.’

Simon continued, ‘We now have a team of 8-10 turning up every week to play and would like to invite more people like Clive to come and try Walking Football in Alsager.’

Walking Football is a drop in football session for members of the public, mainly aimed at 50+ years old, or individuals, who have injuries and are recovering, with an emphasis on having fun and to stay healthy, in a safe environment.
