When Keith experienced a heart attack and had a stent fitted on the 4th December 2025, his world was turned upside down.
Like many people recovering from a cardiac event, Keith faced a period of uncertainty as he adjusted to life after leaving hospital. Activities he once took for granted became more challenging, and he found himself unable to do as much as he wanted to.
Before his heart attack, Keith described himself as “running on empty”, but afterwards, that feeling became even more apparent as he focused on his recovery.
A week after being discharged from hospital, Keith was referred to a 6-week Phase 3 Cardiac Rehabilitation programme in Winsford. During the programme, nurses introduced him to the 12-week Phase 4 Cardiac Rehabilitation programme at Knutsford Leisure Centre, giving him the opportunity to safely rebuild his fitness under expert supervision and at a pace that worked for him.
Ready to take the next step in his recovery, Keith joined the Tuesday and Thursday Multi Rehabilitation gym sessions at Everybody Health & Leisure’s Knutsford Leisure Centre.
What he found was more than just an exercise programme. The sessions provided a welcoming environment where people on similar recovery journeys could come together, support one another and work towards improving their health and wellbeing.
Over the 12 weeks, Keith gradually increased his fitness levels and challenged himself with new exercises, always under the guidance of Everybody Leisure’s specialist rehabilitation team. The coaches were on hand throughout, offering encouragement, observing his progress and ensuring he was using the most appropriate equipment to help improve his fitness safely.
Week by week, Keith began to regain not only his fitness but also his confidence:
“Since completing the programme my general level of fitness and stamina has improved. The support off the coaches is great, they observe and help you with gentle encouragement and guidance, making sure you are using the relevant use of equipment to help improve your fitness.”
The benefits extended beyond physical fitness alone. After months of recovery, Keith found himself feeling stronger, more energetic and far more positive about the future.
“Before I had the heart attack I was running on empty and again after the heart attack as I wasn’t able to do as much as I wanted to. However, since completing the programme I am fitter, have more energy and have a renewed zest for life.”
His coach, Holly, was delighted with the progress he made throughout the programme:
“Keith has worked hard over the last 12 weeks, pushing himself to improve and try new exercises. His fitness has improved since we first met, especially his cardiovascular fitness. Well done Keith and keep up the hard work.”
Completing the 12-week Phase 4 Cardiac Rehabilitation programme marks an important milestone in Keith’s recovery journey.
Through his determination, hard work and the support of Everybody’s rehabilitation team, Keith has significantly improved his overall fitness, stamina and cardiovascular health. Most importantly, he has regained the confidence and energy to enjoy life again and continue building on the progress he’s made.
Keith’s story is a reminder that recovering from a cardiac event can feel overwhelming, but with the right support, guidance and encouragement, it is possible to rebuild strength, improve wellbeing and regain confidence.
