This Sunday (14th September 2014) will see the North West Triathlon come to Nantwich Outdoor Pool the second triathlon event to be held there this year.
The event is well known to attract thousands of competitors, with spectators of all ages gathering to support family and friends as they cross the finish line. Competitors of all abilities and levels of fitness have been known to take part from complete novice to club and pro triathlete, as well as charity and fun competitors.
The triathlon will start at our very own Nantwich Outdoor Pool which is the only heated outdoor brine swimming pool in Great Britain. This is then followed by a one lap 12.4 mile cycle around the South Cheshire countryside until returning to Barony Park for the final run.
Barony Park provides the perfect spectator fun day with refreshments, a family play area and hot and cold food along with picnic areas for you to welcome the competitors on their home stretch.
Catering for all abilities the race distances vary for different levels of fitness for the competitors:
Sprint: 500m swim – 20km cycle – 5km run
Super Sprint: 200m swim – 20km cycle – 2.5km run
Fun: 200m swim – 20km cycle – 2.5km run
Team Relay: 500m swim – 20km cycle – 5km run one competitor for each leg!
Dave Morris, Centre Manager at Nantwich Outdoor Pool is busy preparing for the days event:
We are really looking forward to welcoming the North West Triathlon at our outdoor pool facility this weekend. Fun is had by all who compete and spectators who come along to support. It is a great opportunity for our local community and those travelling from further afield to witness great talent in the region and visit our outdoor brine pool which has become a popular attraction in Cheshire.
This event signals a finale to a great summer spent at the pool both indoors and outdoors, with everyone hoping the warm weather will hold until 28th September which is the end of the season for the outdoor facility.

Notes to editors
Nantwich Outdoor Pool
The outdoor pool first opened to the public on the 1st July 1935 and the pool water temperature is now maintained at 74°F and through solar gain is usually much warmer. Some of our older customers still reminisce about their school days at the pool, when they claim the water was only just above freezing point and they happily swam in it!
