Karl recently took part in the Nantwich Triathlon in May which is organised by UKTri Series, he completed the event in 1 hour 16min and managed to come 83rd in the race. He  has now signed himself up for a second go in September, hoping to improve on his technique and time.

Karl commented, ” I decided in January to join the gym to get a little fitter. I chose my newly opened Everybody gym in Holmes Chapel as it gives me the versatility to workout in any Everybody Leisure Center in Cheshire East.

Both my children are keen swimmers for Sandbach Sharks and therefore the benefit of fitting a swim or group fitness class around their swim sessions was ideal. I also was already doing the Park Run in Congleton which meant I can go to Congleton Leisure Centre for a spin class after a run. Prior to joining the gym I had never done any classes and this has been a great new way of exercising and socialising.”

Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer Christopher Mottershaw has been working with Karl since he joined the facility in January to help achieve his goals.

Karl continued, “Initially I talked to Chris about doing a triathlon and he set a program on all three triathlon disciplines, swimming was 500m in 10 mins then I knocked 3 minutes off my time after 3 months and managed to complete did the triathlon distance in 7 mins.

Cycling was taken up by the spin classes which I really enjoy and continue to improve on. I was already doing the Park Run at 25mins 5k and since joining the gym I have got that down to 20.31.

Since joining gym I have lost 1 stone from 12.5 stone to 11.5 stone. I feel much better and hopefully will be able to improve on my cycling and overall time for the September Triathlon.”

Everyone at Holmes Chapel Community Centre is looking forward to supporting Karl in his triathlon and we will be sharing his results after the event on 11th September.

Chris Mottershaw commented, “It has been great seeing Karl work so hard in his triathlon training and he really is an inspiration to other members and his family, setting goals and achieving them. It is important for anyone looking to train for an event or even just to learn more about the equipment and how they can reach their goals to book in for a programme. We are also now providing 1-2-1 personal training services which includes coached 1 hour sessions and nutritional advice.”
