Wilmslow Leisure Centre Helps Talented Athlete Reach Team GB!
Matt French using the new gym facilities at Wilmslow Leisure Centre
Matt French, 20 years old from Adlington Road in Wilmslow, has been using Wilmslow Leisure Centre since he was 15 years old. With a keen interest in sport Matt competed in everything from football, tennis and swimming, to now being selected for the British Skeleton GB team!
Matt heard about a programme called homes to the games which took athletes from home, literally to the games. Participants are tested in all physical aspects such as, height, weight, speed and power, if you make the cut they will offer you a place on the preliminary stages of their programme.
Matt’s application got accepted and the rest is history! After almost 2 years of endless trips down to Bath, he passed the selection process and was taken to Latvia in March this year by the Olympic GB team.
Matt has been selected to be on the programme for another year with the help of Everybody Health and Leisure’s Talented Athlete Support Scheme programme which has given him the ability to access the newly refurbished Wilmslow gym for free, guidance from nutritionists, personal training and support with medical care.

Matt shared:
“Wilmslow Leisure Centre has always provided me with all the equipment and guidance from the trainers I need for every sport I have chosen to do. This has allowed me try out different workout styles and tailor what my body needs for different sports over the years.”
He continued,
“I’m excited to get back to the gym at Wilmslow Leisure Centre. There was great equipment before, now I’m just going to be spoilt for choice allowing my training to go the extra mile. I’m trying to get stronger and faster utilising the new facilities at Wilmslow Leisure Centre.”
