Residents across Cheshire East are being encouraged to “Know Your Numbers!” this September as part of the UK’s biggest blood pressure testing and awareness event, running from 8th to 14th September 2025. Led by Blood Pressure UK, the initiative aims to look for the missing millions, sharing
“Right now, 5 million UK adults aged 18-64 may have undiagnosed high blood pressure – increasing their risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease. Many don’t even know it.”
Locally, Everybody Health & Leisure and One You Cheshire East are teaming up to offer free self-testing blood pressure machines at facilities throughout the borough. These checks are available to anyone aged 18 and over, with no booking required, just drop in during opening hours.
The opportunity to check your own blood pressure will be available on a self-screening blood pressure machine at:
- Crewe Lifestyle Centre
- Nantwich Leisure Centre
- Knutsford Leisure Centre
- Holmes Chapel Community Centre
- Wilmslow Leisure Centre
- Macclesfield Leisure Centre
Gavin, Health Referral Lead at Everybody Health & Leisure, explains:
“It’s really important that you do get your blood pressure checked regularly, as often you can sometimes have no symptoms when you have high blood pressure. If you do have high blood pressure consistently, it can increase the risk of developing further serious conditions such as cardiovascular disease, stroke and vascular dementia.”
Blood Pressure UK reports “High blood pressure is known as the “silent killer” – no symptoms, just risk. But knowing your numbers gives you the power to act – whether that’s eating less salt, being more active, or starting medication if needed.”
A campaign video is available to guide users on how to safely and effectively use Everybody Health & Leisure’s blood pressure machines. Click here to view.
At Crewe Lifestyle Centre alone, the blood pressure machine has been used 23,000 times in the past year, showing strong community engagement and a growing awareness of the community checking their blood pressure numbers.
In addition to having free self-testing blood pressure machines available, there will be resources available, raising awareness of what blood pressure is, why it is important to check it on a regular basis and if it is a little bit higher than expected what they next steps would be to help manage that a little bit more.
One You Cheshire East provide a range of free health and lifestyle programmes, including helping you to become active, become a healthier weight, support in stopping smoking and more.
