Our Health Referral Lead Kevin has put together a workout card suitable for all stages of COPD.
Exercising more will help with exercise tolerance and managing symptoms of dyspnoea and fatigue. Benefits of exercise will help with carrying out everyday activities, reduction of depression, and improved efficiency of skeletal muscles. Choose 8-10 of the exercises 2-3 times a week.
Before you begin, warm up with a 10-minute warm-up routine. After your workout, cool down with a 10-minute cool down including stretches. You should aim to exercise to a dyspnoea rating of 3-4 (Please refer to table 1.1 below on the workout card). Plan your exercise around your daily activities to avoid doing too much. Mid to late morning or afternoon are best times to exercise.
Please take reasonable precautions to prevent damage or injury. Please do not participate in workouts if advised by your doctor against.
