Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to celebrate our health and fitness and what better way to do that than by working out together? Exercising with a partner, friend or family member helps to work towards shared goals, supports your motivation and creates fun healthy competition. A little friendly competition can be motivating, right? Whether it’s who can run faster, lift heavier, or complete more reps, this healthy rivalry can drive you both to improve.
Here are some fun and effective ways to make your Valentine’s Day workout special:
1. Partner Yoga
Yoga is a fantastic way to connect with your partner and/or create fun memories with your friends. Partner yoga poses require trust, communication and synchronisation, making it a perfect activity this Valentines Day. Never tried yoga before? This is the time to throw yourself into the deep end and enhance your flexibility.
2. Couples’ Cardio
Get your sweat on with a cardio workout that you can do together. Whether it’s a brisk walk, a group cycling class or a high energy class such as Dance Fit, cardio exercises are a great way to boost your mood and energy levels. Plus, with work and life commitments getting in the way, it’s a fun way to spend quality time with your other half, friends or close one.
3. Strength Training
Challenge each other with a strength training session. You can take turns spotting each other, or try partner exercises like medicine ball passes, partner squats, or resistance band workouts. Encouraging each other through those last few reps can be incredibly motivating and for the competitive ones out there, see who can finish first!
4. Fitness Classes for Two
Your local leisure centre will offer classes that will be suitable for people who are looking to workout together. From bootcamps and TRAIN classes to Circuit training and Aqua-Fit sessions, these are all designed to help you enjoy fitness with others, keeping you motivated along the way.
5. Home Workout Challenge
If you prefer to stay in, create a home workout challenge. Set up a circuit of exercises that you can do with a partner, such as push-ups, sit-ups and jumping jacks. You could also use resistance bands between sets to add friendly competition and target those muscles we don’t often use.
Benefits of Working Out with a partner
Motivation: Having a workout partner can keep you motivated and accountable.
Fun: Exercising together can make workouts more enjoyable and less of a chore.
Support: You can encourage and support each other through challenging exercises.
This Valentine’s Day, skip the traditional dinner and movie date and try a workout that brings you closer together. Not only will you be doing something healthy, but you’ll also be creating fun fitness memories with your partner. So, lace up your sneakers, grab your workout gear, and get ready to train together to stay together!
