What does it take to come back stronger after injury? For squash player Ollie Hudson, it’s all about resilience, discipline and consistency.

Ollie’s journey with squash started early. Growing up, it was his parents, mainly his stepdad, who first introduced him to the sport when he was around nine years old. From those first hits on court, Ollie quickly found his rhythm, beginning with junior team events before stepping into his first individual competition. It didn’t take long for things to click, as he went on to win the Cheshire Mixed Under-11 Championships.

But like many athletes, Ollie’s path hasn’t always been smooth. In November 2022, just two days after winning the senior Cheshire Championships for the first time, he faced a major setback. A ruptured achilles meant nine months away from the sport he loved. It was tough, both physically and mentally, and one that could have easily knocked his confidence.

Instead of stepping back, Ollie leaned in. During those nine months out, he committed himself almost every day to strength work in the gym. It wasn’t just about recovery; it was about coming back better. Stronger. Fitter. More prepared.

That determination has paid off. One of Ollie’s proudest achievements so far is being selected to play for England’s Over-35 squash team. It’s no small feat. The journey demands consistent performance across a long and challenging season, travelling across the country, competing against hundreds of players, all chasing just six places on the team.

Through it all, Ollie has built more than just physical strength. He’s developed the kind of mindset that carries over into everyday life. For him, being an athlete is about discipline, resilience, and pushing through discomfort and proving that with the right focus, anything feels achievable.

Ollie also credits the Everybody Aspiring Athlete Programme as a key part of his progress. The support he’s received, particularly with off-court training like strength and cardio work, has helped him stay on track and continue improving. It’s that extra layer of guidance and structure that’s making a real difference as he prepares for the season ahead.

Ollie’s focus now is on building on that momentum. With another demanding season ahead, his goal is simple: keep improving, stay strong, and continue competing at the highest level possible.

For anyone on a similar journey, Ollie’s story is a great reminder that setbacks don’t have to stop you, they can push you forward. With the right support, consistency, and mindset, progress is always possible.
