Chris volunteers at Everybody Health & Leisure at the Walking Netball, Pickleball, Sport & Social Sessions at Congleton Leisure Centre where she is immensely popular with the attendees and very highly regarded by the staff at Everybody Health & Leisure.
Chris was kind enough to attend our Walking Netball Festival on 10th November and give out the prizes alongside Sue Whitely, who won our Volunteer of the Year Award in 2024.
DIY SOS Children in Need
As well as giving up her time to volunteer at Everybody, Chris and her daughter Claire have also recently volunteered for DIY SOS in aid of Children In Need. This special project saw the team work on the biggest project to date for DIY SOS Children in Need. The build was to transform the site of the Joshua Tree near Northwich in Cheshire. The Joshua Tree supports the emotional wellbeing of those suffering from childhood cancers and their families. This is a cause close to Chris’s heart, she and her daughter decided to volunteer after her daughter lost her son to cancer.
Nick Knowles and the team were joined by Morning Live presenters Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton to transform the site by extending all the facilities to accommodate more children and their families, all of which will help give young people and their families the crucial support they need to improve their mental and physical health and wellbeing and reduce isolation.
Chris Said: “I volunteered, along with my daughter, to work on the DIY SOS project funded by Children in Need. They were building a huge extension at the Joshuatree charity to include a residential facility and gym. This charity is very close to our hearts as they supported us when my grandson Noah was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare muscle cancer, at the age of 16 months. The charity was beside us all the way throughout his treatments. Sadly, Noah passed away at the age of four, but the Joshuatree continued to support our whole family by means of counselling and various group therapies and activities.
By volunteering for the DIYSOS it’s enabled both my daughter Claire and I to give back to the charity which has helped us, to enable them to continue to give their invaluable support to other families who may unfortunately need it.”
