Everybody Health & Leisure improve the lifestyle of two local residents through their, ‘Be steady Be Safe’, Falls prevention programme, at Congleton Leisure Centre.

The registered charities, Be Steady Be Safe programme is an evidenced based 12 week scheme, consisting of weekly exercise classes suitable for people with poor strength, mobility and balance, wanting to reduce falls, increase social interaction and improve overall well-being.

Hearing from a couple of Everybody’s recent class members, Patricia Sharp, Everybody Healthy member shares:

“I came out of hospital weighing six and a half stone and could hardly walk. I was using a walking frame for 6 months. Since joining the class, I now have the confidence and can walk without a frame only using my stick when I go out. Everybody’s falls prevention class is great, I have now regained my healthy weight, I’m steadier on my feet, meaning I can go and meet class members and enjoy myself.”

Everybody’s classes are held weekly at selected leisure centres and include, strength and balance exercise classes, prescribed home exercises and the education of reducing falls risk factors.

Cynthia Morris, Everybody Healthy member shared:

“After having a 26-year-old hip knocked out and a new one put in. I found out that I was having to learn to walk properly again. I could not lift my right foot off the ground at all and my family had to put my foot into bed every night. A friend suggested I try Everybody’s falls prevention programme.  The programme had made an enormous difference by giving me a lot more confidence and I have met loads of lovely people. I can now lift my foot up and put it in bed and don’t need any support from my family anymore.”

Victoria Clarke, Specialist Health Advisor at Everybody Health & Leisure shared:

“Well done to Cynthia and Patricia, they have been a pleasure to work with and all their hard work has paid off. They are both so lovely and I am glad that the class has been beneficial to them both physically and mentally. I have seen their confidence grow and balance significantly improve throughout the weeks of attending the class. Well done ladies!”
