We would love to hear your suggestions so email them to us at [email protected] and see if they make our next blog post!
Tip 1: Buddy up!
Grab yourself a Gym Buddy and you are more likely to keep up with your daily routine.
It has been proven that those who join a gym or a fitness class with a friend are more likely to keep up their routine that those who try to achieve their goals alone. You are likely to motivate each other and keep to a routine, just the thought of letting a friend down can be enough to get you off the sofa and into your trainers!
Tip 2: Wake UP!
Try an early morning workout instead of waiting until the end of the day.
When the dark cold nights on winter set in, it is very easy to make excuses for venturing out in the evenings to the gym. Instead, set your alarm an hour earlier in the morning and workout. You may even find you start to wake up positive and more energised to get things done, which can have a great affect on your job too!
Tip 3: Drink water!
Keeping your body hydrated all day will keep your energy levels up for the gym!
There is nothing worse than feeling sluggish after the Christmas holidays and we all look to juicing detox diets to get us back in shape. By keeping our bodies hydrated with water (at least 1 litre a day) you will start to see a difference in how you feel and look! The more hydrated your body is your skin will also start glowing and you will have the energy you need to smash that workout.
Tip 4: Goal setting!
Weight loss or fitness level targets are the best way to kick start your regime.
One of the biggest mistakes you can make is not setting yourself a target. Simply saying you want to ‘lose weight’ or ‘get fitter’ doesn’t sound like a goal you are likely to stick to. Why not try;’I want drop two dress sizes in twelve months’ or ‘I want to be fit enough to sign up to my first 10k race!’
Tip 5: Challenge yourself!
Sign up to a running event or obstacle course & train hard for it!
By entering yourself (and your new gym buddy) into a upcoming running event, cycle race, triathlon, obstacle course, swimathon…. will make you take your training seriously. There isn’t a better feeling than starting out only being able to run on a treadmill for a few minutes to then reaching the finish line of your first half marathon!
Tip 6: Eat Clean!
Changing your diet will help you reach your goals faster.
To make sure you are staying fit and healthy in 2015 means to change your whole lifestyle. With a new exercise routine should also come a new diet plan, you need to make sure you are eating the right foods to keep you energised and giving your body the nutrients it needs.
Tip 7: Mix it up!
Try out a new fitness class or rethink your gym routine every 12 weeks.
We believe that sticking to the same exercise class or gym routine for longer than 12 weeks can actually have a damaging effect on your fitness goals. Your body will become accustomed to the routine and it is likely you are going to start to get bored! Instead, try something new each period, ask your gym instructor to help you with a new gym circuit, add swimming to your schedule, join a sports club or try a new group fitness class.
Tip 8: Become a member!
Long term commitment rather than casual use helps with consistency.
We know that the more commitment you put into your gym membership the more you will attend. By signing up to a yearly membership with regular payments (at good value for money of course) you are more likely to make the most out of your membership and push yourself to use the facilities. Not only that, you could actually be saving yourself money by signing up longer-term rather than attending the gym or classes on a pay-as-you-go basis. Consistency is key to success, say no to yo-yo dieting and only seasonal fitness regimes and make it part of your daily life.
Tip 9: Think positive!
Stop focusing on your current body image, strive to what you want to become.
We all need to stop beating ourselves up over how much turkey and chocolate oranges we devoured over the holidays. Instead of wallowing in self pity, let’s look to the future and start imagining how we would like to look and feel in the next 6 months to a year. Positive outlooks gives us inspiration and aspiration to become a better version of ourselve and automatically give us hope and an uplift in feelings.
Tip 10: Ditch ‘Exercise’!
Instead see your workout as a ‘sport’ & your fitness class as your team!
Ditch the word exercise from your vocabulary for a while. Start to see your new regime as a sport whether that is lifting weights or swimming lengths and you are likely to feel more positive about your daily workout, it may even spur you on to start to compete!
