By Everybody Sport April 15, 2016

On Monday 11th April Ben Smith returned to Macclesfield Leisure Centre to complete Marathon number #224 after seeing him on the 11th January where he completed marathon number #133.

Ben has set himself a world record attempt to run 401 marathons in 401 consecutive days across 309 different locations in the UK, two of which were at Macclesfield Leisure Centres Athletics Track.

Macclesfield Harriers who train at the Athletics Track have been a great support to Ben, not only in helping him organise the two events in Macclesfield but ran both marathons at various parts with him. Staff from Macclesfield Leisure Centre also took part, two of which ran their very first marathon.

The 401 challenge aims to raise both awareness of the issues of bullying along with £250,000 for ‘Stonewall’ and ‘Kidscape’ two charities both dedicated to tackling bullying. Both these charities work to support award winning initiatives which really get to the heart of bullying in our UK schools and society in all its forms.

Ben started off the event by giving a talk to 100 school children from 10 local schools around the seriousness of bullying and how we can all help to stop this from happening. The children then went on to complete the warm up and 1 mile around the Athletics track with Ben.IMG_4774

It has been an honor for Everybody Sport and Recreation to have been chosen by Ben to host the 401 Challenge at Macclesfields Athletics Track. We wish Ben all the best with the rest of his challenge.
