Everybody Sport and Recreation shortlisted for multiple Heart Safe Awards 2016!

Everybody Sport and Recreation has been shortlisted for not one but four Heart Safe Awards.

The UK Heart Safe Awards, is the UK’s leading national awards competition to celebrate organisations and employers who invest in creating Heart Safe environments and the acts of individuals who have saved lives while at work or leisure.

In 2015, Everybody were announced winners of the Sport and Fitness Establishment of the Year, an award which the Leisure Trust has gained a shortlist place for this year along with Large Business of the Year, Not for Profit Organisation of the Year and Life Saver of the Year.

The Life Saver of the Year Award celebrates two employees; Lee Harrison, Duty Manager and Ryan Trevelyan, Leisure Assistant who were able to save the life of customer Dennis Cottier as he went into cardiac arrest whilst playing football in the sports hall at Alsager Leisure Centre.

Richard Roeton Learning and Development Manager at Everybody commented, “The ability of staff such as Lee and Ryan to react quickly and effectively to emergency situations is vital to help save lives but also to demonstrate to all members of the public that their welfare is at the heart of what takes place in our facilities.

“Their ability to manage the situation in a busy leisure facility, surrounded by Dennis’ friends and team mates and to undertake effective CPR and use of the Defibrillator demonstrates their total professionalism and dedication to the job and ensuring the safety of everyone who walks through the doors.”

Dennis has since made a full recovery and is back at Alsager Leisure Centre playing football in the evenings.

General Area Manager Maria Tatters commented, “Being able to welcome Dennis back to the centre to play football again just 6 weeks after his cardiac arrest is testament to the actions that Lee and Ryan took on that evening.”

She continued, “The fact that Dennis recovered so quickly is also thanks to their speedy response ensuring that no lasting damage was caused and enabling him to continue to play the sport that he loved.”

Lee and Ryan will be attending the award ceremony along with other colleagues on 7th October 2016 in Manchester.
