LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Sponsored by Matrix Fitness
This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award went to Jean Hicks who has dedicated over a decade to volunteering over 30 hours a week to help people over 50 get out and get active at their local U3A group in Shavington.
In 2004, Jean along with two others David Fishburne and Brian Roe launched the first U3A group in Crewe at Shavington Leisure Centre. The group was aimed at the over 50’s as a way for people to get active and socialise in a friendly and welcoming environment. After just one year, Jean was given the responsibility to run the group all by herself, and she did this on a volunteer basis for over 30 hours a week.
Jean said, ‘I love to see the changes in people. They come to the group very nervous and unsure but as time goes on they meet new friends and their confidence grows.’
No stranger to the Everybody Awards, Jean has previously been shortlisted in the Volunteer of the Year (2015) and Special Recognition (2014) categories. Everybody was very proud to present Jean with the Lifetime Achievement Award 2016.
