Healthy eating is often seen as depriving yourself of your favourite snacks and meals, but it doesn’t always have to be this way. It is easy to adapt your fave dishes to be just that little bit healthier…
Here are our top tips to make your favourite foods healthier:
If you go out for a meal and really want a burger? Great, have one! Substitute your bun for extra salad and swap the regular fries for sweet potato ones! All the taste, less calories.
Herbs and spices like garlic and oregano have so much flavour and virtually no calories! Season your food with ingredients like this instead of salt and butter, to decrease your sodium intake, reduce your risk of heart disease and high blood pressure, and increase the flavour!
If you’re trying to satisfy that sweet tooth, there’s loads of healthy things you can make that will cook up a storm in the kitchen. For example these low carb chocolate chip cookies, they contain NO sugar, and NO flour (yes really), instead they use ground almonds and a sugar substitute that you can get in your local shop. They have the flavour you want, but none of the guilt!
Replace your fizzy drinks with sugar free, there’s no difference in taste, but a big difference in sugar, calories, carbohydrates and fats!
Instead of frying your food, try grilling! It might not seem like it’ll make a big difference, but it does. Reducing the amount of oil you cook with can make a huge difference to your health, and not using it won’t affect the flavour.
Making these small changes can allow you to eat and sustain a healthy diet; here at Everybody we have a range of cookery courses that teach you healthy recipes. Our “Fakeaway” course teaches you how to make your favourite takeaway dishes at home, including fajitas and sweet and sour chicken.
