Everybody Leisure Support National #ChangeandCheck Campaign!

By Laura Ratcliffe July 29, 2019

Cheshire East based Charitable Trust, Everybody Leisure are working alongside ITV’s Lorraine to raise awareness for the signs of breast cancer. The #changeandcheck campaign highlights the symptoms to look out for that may signify breast cancer. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime but more than 50% of women say they don’t know the early signs of the disease. Information around the campaign is being displayed in all 15 leisure facilities ran by Everybody Leisure.

Everybody are  supporting the campaign alongside staff member Nicola O’Donnell, a breast cancer survivor. Speaking on the importance of the campaign she said,

Ladies visit the changing rooms many times a week and have time to read notices in there,  if you are someone that is perhaps  putting off going to the doctors it can be a prominent continual reminder. Early detection is a life saver and even when, like me, the cancer had progressed to lymph nodes and the lump was 6cm, the NHS were still able to save the life of a daughter, mother, wife, sister and friend.  Another great thing about making it noticeable,  is it encourages conversation with others who may have similar experiences. When I was going though treatment a lady chatted to me who had been though the same years.”

The campaign, launched by producer Helen Addis has been nationally recognised in the house of commons by Theresa May who praised the hard work and importance of it. Everybody Leisure wants to stress the importance of education around breast cancer symptoms to the local community and highlight that just 5 minutes could help save a person’s life.
