Pulmonary Rehabilitation Partnership in Cheshire East comes to the Crewe Lifestyle Centre
Everybody Sport and Recreation recognise the importance in supporting and working closely with NHS partners and are delighted to have partnered with the Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP) Pulmonary Rehabilitation service.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is an exercise and education programme for patients living with a diagnosed breathing problem such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD), Bronchiectasis or Pulmonary Fibrosis. It is an eight week programme and patients need to attend twice a week to gain maximum benefit.
The aim is to teach patients to manage their symptoms, particularly breathlessness and also increase their exercise ability, making day to day activities a little easier.
The exercise is tailored to each individual patient, so don’t worry if you don’t feel you can exercise or you haven’t exercised for a while, the specialist respiratory physiotherapists will be there at every session to help you.
Donna Williamson Senior Manager – Health Innovation at Everybody Sport and Recreation shares:
“We are delighted to partner with CCICP Pulmonary Rehabilitation service, supporting the expansion of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation service into our leisure facility and supporting programme delivery.
We have worked with Jane Wilmer and the team for many years and this new partnership development will enable the service to cope with patients demand in numbers through increasing provision and access to the programme, whilst offering patients long-term exercise and lifestyle support in coping and managing their condition all under the same roof.”
Holding the programme at Crewe Lifestyle Centre allows a new approach to delivery, with Everybody’s Specialist Health Instructors supporting the exercise component of the programme.
It also provides a unique opportunity, once patients have completed the Pulmonary Rehabilitation programme, they can continue attending Everybody’s Rehabilitation exercise classes, aiding progression and offering long-term support.
Jane Wilmer, British Lung Foundation Advanced Clinical Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapist, Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team shares:
“The Pulmonary Rehabilitation service is delighted to be working in partnership with Everybody Sport and Recreation’s Health Innovations Service and moving the programme to Crewe Lifestyle Centre.
It is a much bigger venue for us [the NHS] so we can see more patients more quickly and having the delivery support of Everybody’s Specialist Health Instructors at the centre working alongside us during the sessions allows us to share our expertise, all of which will benefit our patients.”
To access this service, patients need a referral from a GP/practice nurse/ Integrated respiratory team or respiratory consultant. If you would like to find out more, please contact your health professional.
