Everybody Sport and Recreation secures funding for the return of the Exercise Referral Scheme

Everybody Sport and Recreation are delighted to announce that they have now secured funding from Sport England, working in partnership with Active Cheshire to enable the restart of their extremely popular Exercise Referral Scheme. The programme provides a range of physical activity schemes for people who are recovering from illness or have been diagnosed with various long term health conditions.

After being unavailable for 12 months due to the pandemic, the funding will allow Everybody to roll out this offering in more of their leisure centres based in Cheshire East and support the local community in being physically active and managing their condition.

Donna Williamson, senior manager health innovation at Everybody Sport and Recreation shared “We are absolutely ecstatic that we are able to bring back our successful Exercise Referral scheme supporting and making a difference to people’s lives. We have to say a massive thank you to both Sport England and Active Cheshire for the funding and supporting us with the re-opening of this scheme.

We are looking forward to rolling the scheme out at more of our leisure centres soon. Our team are ready and waiting to change your life and support you in being more active, managing your condition and improving your quality of life.”

The exercise referral scheme is now available at Crewe Lifestyle Centre and Macclesfield Leisure Centre and will soon be arriving at Holmes Chapel Community Centre and Shavington Leisure Centre.

The programme runs for 12 weeks and includes an initial face to face consultation with our Specialist Health Advisor, with two other appointments held on week 6 and 12. Participants get unlimited access to the Gym, Swimming, Group Exercise Classes, Health Walks and Rehabilitation exercise classes if required. There is something for everyone and of all abilities!

Roger Elliott, health and social care lead at Active Cheshire shared, “We are delighted to support our partner Everybody Sport and Recreation with their ‘Exercise Referral Scheme’ through Sport England’s Tackling Inequalities Fund. Active Cheshire is committed to improving ways to enrich the health, wellbeing and quality of life across Cheshire and Warrington using exercise. We know that people with long term health conditions or recovering from illness benefit from physical activity.”
