Summer and swimming go hand in hand and with the holidays around the corner, now’s the perfect time to plan a family dip in the pool or a trip to the beach! Swimming is an awesome way to enjoy time together as a family during the holidays as well as building health and fitness.
But for a lot of parents, water safety can be a cause for concern. Developing swimming skills can give parent’s peace of mind and kids the confidence to have fun and be safe in the water. Let’s explore why summer is the perfect time to take the plunge!
Make use of the extra time
Why not use free time over the holidays by encouraging kids to learn a new skill? Now could be the perfect chance to enrol them in Swimming Lessons or a Holiday Crash Course, where they can take their swimming to the next level or start from scratch. You could also go for a swim at your local leisure centre where they can practice in their free time. Using swim toys and playing games can encourage them whilst keeping it exciting and fun!
Water Safety
Water safety is key for children, especially during the summer when they’re spending more time in the pool or at the beach. Last year, the Royal Life Saving Society reported over 46% of accidental drownings took place between the months of June and August, and more than 46% of people who fell into the water didn’t intend to. Water Safety essentials are taught in all our Learn to Swim programs and aim to give your child crucial skills and build confidence in the water. Older children can also enrol in our Rookie Lifeguard training, where they can learn master lifesaving skills whilst completing engaging games and activities.
Activities and Water sports
Swimming is just the jumping off point for a tonne of fun activities and sports that can be enjoyed as a family. New-found swimming confidence could also encourage kids to try new hobbies, from kayaking or snorkelling on holiday, to joining a local swim club.
Making Friends
Swimming opens up amazing opportunities for your children to meet and connect with other kids. It’s a great way for them to stay active whilst growing their social skills, encouraging teamwork and new friendships, whether that’s through swimming lessons or simply going to a Fun Swim at your local leisure centre.
Make the Most of Your Holiday
Holidays should be a chance for everyone to relax and enjoy themselves. Knowing your child is a confident swimmer can ease worries and encourage relaxation for parents and children alike. It can also create loads of fun family activities – think paddleboarding or a trip to the water park! It’s a brilliant way to show kids how enjoyable swimming can be and make their holiday even more exciting.
