1. When will the swim changing room improvements take place?

Works are due to begin 13th January and are expected to take 8-10 weeks to complete.

2. What improvements are being made?

Improvements are being made throughout the changing areas, including flooring, walls, ceilings, lighting, changing cubicles, shower cubicles, lockers, vanity units, hairdryers and decorative features such as mirrors. The changing areas will remain separate spaces for men and women, there will not be a changing village at this location.

3. Why is it taking 8-10 weeks to complete?

We want to keep people active and enjoying uninterrupted time in the water. To avoid full pool or full changing area closures, we’ve put a phased maintenance plan in place. This means we’ll improve the changing areas zone by zone. So, where you get changed might be different during the maintenance but we’ll always have somewhere safe with as little disruption to your pool time as possible.

4. Should I arrive ‘swim ready’?

Yes. For all swimming pool activities, including swimming lessons, we encourage all swimmers to arrive ‘swim ready’. This means to arrive in your swim clothing. Changing areas will remain safe and secure but some features such as showers, lockers, hairdryers etc may be unavailable during your visit.

5. Will swimming lessons be disrupted?

No. The phased maintenance plan means swimming lessons won’t be disrupted. However, as works progress the location of your changing area might change. Staff will be on hand and signage available to help guide swimmers.

6. How will the ‘phased maintenance’ plan impact my swimming experience?

Phase 1: A temporary, private men’s changing area will be created on poolside. The women’s changing area will move temporarily into the current men’s changing area to allow upgrade works to take place in the current women’s changing area.

Phase 2: The new women’s changing area will open. Men will continue to change in the temporary poolside changing area to allow upgrade works to take place in the current men’s changing area.

Phase 3: The new men’s changing area will open. Upgrade works will take place in the accessible changing area.

Phase 4: Upgrade works will conclude with improvements being made to the ground floor changing area to the right of the reception desk (near squash court) and first floor accessible toilet area.

7. Will any changing area features be unavailable during the upgrade works?

Yes. It is possible that some features, including showers, lockers, hairdryers etc, may be unavailable during your visit. We advise all swimmers to arrive ‘swim ready’. In the scenario that lockers are unavailable to visitors, storage boxes will be made available on poolside for safe storage of belongings.

8. Will other parts of the leisure centre remain open?

Yes. All other areas of the centre will be open, including the swim viewing area. Visitors are advised that the swim viewing area is likely to be busier than usual with the temporary men’s changing area situated alongside this space.

9. Parking information

Poynton High School have informed us that they will be placing 2x building huts on the car park used by Leisure Centre and Nursery visitors. These huts will be in place from 6th January until Summer 2025. Visitors are advised to allow additional time for parking, particularly during busy periods of the day.

10. How do I keep up to date with future information?

We’ll share important updates using the email address associated with your Everybody membership. Fitness members can check and manage their contact details by logging in to our new app. Updates will also be shared on the Poynton Leisure Centre Facebook page.
