Bikeability is ‘cycling proficiency’ for the 21st century, designed to give children the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads.
We have trained over 5,600 children to cycle safely and after securing a further £600,000 in Department for Transport grants we can continue this vital and successful cycling scheme to 2020!
There are three Bikeability levels, with each level designed to help improve cycling skills, no matter what the cyclist knows already. Levels 1, 2 and 3 take trainees on a journey from the basics of balance and control, all the way through to planning and making a journey by themselves on busier roads.
Before setting off make sure to do a ABC bike check
A = Air – squeeze the tyres to ensure they are solid like an apple and not like squishy like a banana.
B = Brakes – Roll the bike forward and apply the front brakes. It should stop quickly. Roll the bike backwards to check the rear brakes.
C = Chain – lift up the rear of the bike and rotate the pedal to ensure the chain runs smoothly.
Free Cycle Confidence Sessions starts from 17th August, these sessions are designed to help participants progress through the elements of learning to ride a bike including their balance on their bike, the push off and then control.
Booking is essential for all sessions as places are limited. For more information please follow the link here
