Charity “lifts the spirits” of their vulnerable members.

Everybody Sport and Recreation, registered health and wellbeing charity based in Cheshire East, is making hundreds of calls per week to their vulnerable and elderly members who would usually access their falls prevention programmes and Everybody Healthy rehabilitation classes.

Everybody Healthy triage team are calling their members each week, a chance to have a chat, checking in to make sure they are ok, provide home exercises to keep them active and mobile at home, referring to their exercise booklets they would have received in their exercise classes, as well as signposting members to local services in the community to help with dog walking, shopping and much more.

Joan Sheard from Holmes Chapel, aged 87 shares “These calls make such a difference, just hearing from someone not in the family lifts the spirits and gives a conversation starter with friends from the class.”

During this time, Everybody Sport and Recreation are offering free services to keep members and the public moving through a range of channels. This is done over the phone, YouTube classes and live classes via social media in their Everybody Member Zone Facebook Group.

Launching this week for members is live Everybody Get Moving classes– low impact classes, designed to get people moving and enjoying exercise and Everybody Mobility, a range of seated and standing exercises – low impact, for people with health conditions, mobility issues or new to exercise.

Donna Williamson, Everybody Sport and Recreations Senior Manager, Health Innovation shares “It is more important than ever that we keep in contact with our members during this time of isolation, our members miss the classes and we miss seeing them every week so it is great to keep in contact. As we have members with mobility issues and long term medical conditions it is so important that they keep moving and that they do this by having fun which is exactly what our new live classes involve.

Donna continues

Our health team are supporting members in accessing our classes, Ann, 85 from Knutsford is joining our Everybody Member Zone Facebook page, she cannot believe that we are doing live classes and will be logged in tomorrow just before 11am.”

We have also talked through accessing our YouTube classes with Dianne, 73 from Alsager, who will be adding this to her exercise routine, Dianne is doing her booklet exercises and walking daily, after the chat with the team last week.”

Margaret Andrew from Knutsford aged 79, shares “Wonderful to hear from the team and hear news which is not just from family members, will be giving YouTube a go!”
