What’s happening to the gym?

We’re making a considerable investment in the gym facilities at Macclesfield Leisure Centre. The gym will be transformed into a state-of-the-art fitness suite with a premium look and feel, featuring new Technogym equipment. The group cycle studio will also be refurbished and optimised to give Macclesfield members a better cycling experience. While this work takes place the gym will be closing for a period of approximately 5 weeks.


What date does the gym close?

The gym at Macclesfeld Leisure Centre will close on Wednesday 13th November 2024 at 10pm. A temporary gym will be available from Saturday 16th November at 7am while works are completed in the main gym. More details below.


What parts of the Leisure Centre will be closed?

The main fitness suite will be closed and Squash Courts 1, 2 and the group cycle studio will close for bookings to house the temporary gym.


What date does the gym reopen?

The targeted gym reopening date on Wednesday 18th December 2024 at 6am.


What’s available while the main gym is closed?

 During this period, Macclesfield Leisure Centre will house a temporary gym, which will be located over 2 of the squash courts and the group cycling studio.


What will be in the temporary gym?

  • Squash Court 1 – will have free weights, various benches (incline, flat and adjustable) and a range of dumbbells.
  • Squash Court 2 – will have functional training equipment including Elevate circuit, Skill Mills, Ski-Ergs, rowers, air bike, plyo boxes and more. TRAIN classes will also run from this space.
  • Group Cycling Studio – will have 14 pieces of resistance equipment covering all muscle groups.


Will Biocircuit be available?

Biocircuit will be available from Saturday 16th November til Thursday 21st November. It will then close for the remainder of the works while brand new Biocircuit equipment is installed.


Will PT sessions continue?

Yes. Please speak to your PT about your sessions but you can continue to train in the temporary gym.


Will Next Gen Gym be available?

No, Next Gen Gym will not be running for duration of the work but will return once the new gym opens.


Will Junior Gym be available?

Yes, Junior Gym will be available in the temporary gym.


Will TRAIN classes continue?

Yes, TRAIN classes will be unaffected and will run from the temporary gym space.


Will the Tanita scales still be available?

No, the Tanita scales will be unavailable for the duration of the work but will return once the new gym opens.


Does this affect the Pool, Spa, Sports Hall or other classes?

There will be no impact on the other areas of Macclesfield Leisure Centre, including Swimming, Spa, Group Fitness classes (except group cycling), Sports Hall and our Taste For Life cafe.


Will there be any more work done in the future?

We are committed to refurbish the dry-side changing rooms in Macclesfield Leisure Centre, in Spring 2025.


What happens to my membership?

Macclesfield Leisure Centre members can request free access to our premium venue Everybody @ Alderley Park via this webpage. Once you have submitted a request form, our Customer Experience team will confirm your Alderley Park access. Access to Alderley Park will begin from Tuesday 12th November.
