What is Masters Swimming?

Masters swimming at Macclesfield is an adult swim session led by one of our qualified coaches.

Who is Masters Swimming suitable for?

To enjoy Masters swimming, you’ll need to fit the below criteria;

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be able to swim at least 25m backstroke, breaststroke and front crawl
  • Have a love for swimming!

Having correct breathing technique is a plus but not a requirement.

Masters is ideal for ex-competitive swimmers who want to retain their fitness and skills they worked so hard to build. It’s also a great option for people who took up swimming later in life and crave instruction. We’re seeing more and more people successfully complete our Adult Learn-to-Swim scheme and going on to join Masters to acquire more advanced aquatic skills.

What do Masters sessions involve?

Masters is a group workout with purposeful components to each session. You’ll swim different sets and various strokes – if you don’t know butterfly, no worries! You can learn this stroke at Masters. You’ll also learn how to correctly use equipment such as kickboards, paddles, and pull buoys as well as honing your technique.

What are the benefits of Masters swimming?

Swimming is an incredible way of keeping your mind sharp and your whole body fit. It’s a low-impact workout that reduces impact stress on the body. Additionally, it builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness as well as helping maintain a healthy weight, healthy heart and lungs. The social benefits of swimming are remarkable as well, meeting wonderful, like-minded people in an inclusive and welcoming environment.
