Callums Everybody Apprentice Story

By Laura Ratcliffe January 31, 2020

Callum Chesters currently works as a full time Health and Fitness Advisor at Alsager Leisure Centre; he’s motivated, enjoys his job and is looking forward to progressing within Everybody Sport and Recreation.

Rewind to 2015, and a 19 year old Callum was looking for a career, he was told by friends about the Apprentice opportunities at Everybody and decided to apply for a Leisure Operations course. Callum always wanted to work in fitness and thought this could be the perfect avenue for him.

Callum learnt a lot within his apprenticeship and gained many qualifications, including NVQ’s, First Aid Training and Health and Safety Training. He enjoyed his time at Alsager and felt like a part of the team straight away, the team were supportive, and allowed him to develop his skills through the responsibility he was given.

He said the apprenticeship process was easy and enjoyable, with the Academy team providing constant support, Callum claimed that the team were “only ever a text away” and he felt he could rely on them when he needed. He was able to build friendships with the other apprentices and it allowed him to understand a range of elements of the business.

Working as an apprentice allowed him to forge relationships with senior members of the team, including the directors and senior management which he cited as being really important and it made him feel like a valued member of the team.

Back at Alsager, he was given more and more responsibility as time progressed, with him beginning to support other new starters and take on more duties. Once Callum completed his apprenticeship, he was immediately offered a full time health and fitness role, Everybody Apprentices are guaranteed a job once they complete!

The transition was easy and Callum has been with Everybody ever since, he has been recognised numerous times for his hard work and dedication. Callum has been commended at internal and external award ceremonies for his involvement in 2 cardiac arrest incidents where he has been part of the team that saved both lives.

When asked what he was most proud of in his journey he said, “I’ve been able to get into my dream career and in the place I want to be in just 4 years, I wouldn’t have been able to get here without my Everybody apprenticeship, and I’m thankful for the opportunity.”

He believes that whatever you’re interested in, Everybody have an apprenticeship that could fit you, and believes that it’s a perfect start for someone. “You’ll find something for you with Everybody
