Everybody Member transforms her health and wellbeing after never setting foot in a gym

Tasha-Josephine, shares her fitness journey after being too anxious to set foot in a gym and a busy mum of seven children. Tasha took the small steps by visiting Crewe Lifestyle Centre and attending the Aquafit and Clubbercise classes, kick starting her health and wellbeing journey.

“I started to see progress from where I started, reaching 150lb in weight and fitting in a size 12/14. I feel stronger and healthier than I’ve ever felt.”

Leisure Centre Aquafit Gold Instructor Turns 94 Years of Age

Doreen Harper from Poynton has been teaching swimming activities at Poynton Leisure Centre since she was in her 40’s. Discovering her passion for aquafit, Doreen was on holiday in America visiting a time share with friends and joined the class to see what it was like, she got talking to the instructors who gave her the idea to teach an aquafit class back home.

Doreen shared:

“We go out for afternoon tea and meet for coffee which brings everyone together, as various members have lost their partners, we don’t want them to become lonely. We buy them flowers and gather a little collection together. It’s important that you keep moving, we do bends in the water, reaching up, to the side, all that sort of jazz.”

Online health and fitness classes lift Everybody Member Jamie – Leigh Lawrence’s overall mood, makes her come away from her laptop and adds structure to her day!

Before lockdown, Jamie-Leigh had been attending the Group Cycling/Sprint sessions regularly at Shavington Leisure Centre which she loved and she did not want to lose that motivation to keep her fitness up when we went into another lockdown.

“I love coming to the spin sessions with Gary at Shavington as they are motivating and each class pushes me to my limits.”

ESCAPE-pain member Joan no longer requires the stick that she was dependent on

Joan is 87 years old, from Holmes Chapel, she has recently completed the ESCAPE-pain class at Holmes Chapel Community Centre. When she began the class she was extremely nervous, she didn’t have very good balance and wasn’t confident when walking around.

Joan was shocked in the class as she thought she’d struggle with some of the exercises, but she found that there was nothing she couldn’t do and it felt great!

Tom secures dream job after volunteering with Everybody

Tom Paterson, 26 years-old, has lived in Wilmslow all his life and is now giving his time to enable people of all ages to get active and stay active! Tom started volunteering with Everybody as he wanted to gain some much needed experience in the health & leisure industry and to boost his confidence as he wanted to pursue a career within the sector.

Tom Said: “Volunteering with Everybody has been life-changing for me as not only has it given me the confidence and experience to go out and get a job, but it is also great fun and I have made new friends in the process.”

Member Richard’s Inspirational Story After Almost Losing His Leg In A Motorbike Accident

Richard Vanloon became a member at Holmes Chapel Community Centre the day after being discharged from hospital after a serious motorbike accident. Just 14 months later, his injuries that he was told may be irreversible, are practically healed.

Richard believes that without the staff at Holmes Chapel Community Centre facilitating his ambition, he would have struggled to remain motivated throughout his rehabilitation journey.

“I knew that I could ask any of the staff for help if I needed it. After seeing the staff daily, we became friends and I know even now that I can count on them to support me.”

Volunteer Dan is selected for the Rio Olympics 2016

Paralympic wheelchair racer Dan Bramall who volunteers at Shavington Leisure Centre has recently been selected for the Rio Olympics 2016. Dan has been wheelchair racing since 2012 which all started through a friend.

“I have got a few more competitions left coming up before Rio in September, they are Bedford international games on the 30th & 31st which I will be doing 100m 200m and 400m. On the 13th of August I will be at stoke manderville for BWAA.”

After Rio Dan explained, “I will have a two week break before I start my winter training for next years world championships in London, July 2017.”

David completes 92 miles in his 12 hour challenge at the Crewe Lifestyle Centre

David took on an inspiring 12 hour challenge at the brand new Crewe Lifestyle Centre. The challenge consisted of a 4 hour swim, 4 hour bike and 4 hour run to raise money and awareness for St Lukes Hospice and to encourage people to set themselves a challenge.

David completed a 10 week training programme to prepare for this indoor challenge. Raising over £1,300 for St Lukes Hospice.

David explains to anyone thinking of completing a challenge, “If you do more, you feel more and you also be more as well. So enjoy exploring this fantastic ability to go out there and help people and also improve the quality of your life as well.”

How Stuart lost 9 stone with the Everybody Challenge

Stuart Vaughan, 24 from Nantwich, Cheshire recently took on the Everybody Challenge of exercising for at least 30 minutes five times per week and has managed to lose an incredible 9 stone.

Weighing in at over 24 stone, Stuart realised it was time to make a huge lifestyle change and start his journey to become a healthy, slim and active young man.

Stuart admits that it is not just exercise that has made him lose the weight but he has had to change his eating habits too.

“You don’t get to 24 stone without eating a lot. I have had to change my diet as well as exercise five times a week. I still eat the things that I like, I just now have smaller portions and in moderation.”

Everybody Grants Competition Winner with Leisure for Life

The competition ran for three months as people from all over Cheshire East signed themselves up to take part in at least 30 minutes of exercise five times a week. Watch the Everybody challenge video

Robert Evans, 47, from Eaton Road, Alsager claimed the prize.

He shared, “I was surprised, overwhelmed and delighted when I found out I had won, I could not quite believe it when I saw my name flash up on the video.  I have been an Everybody member for over a year using the gym and pool at both Alsager and Congleton.”
